"Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity" ~ William Wordsworth

i'll publish writing prompts every morning on facebook, twitter and myspace.

you write a poem for that writing prompt on that day and email it to me by 11pm every night. The nicest, illest, coolest, dopest poems will be published on poetrypotion.com every morning.

Speak

by Su...

A hot coal burns my mouth

Setting my thoughts aflame

As my senses fluently reel

Being one who over-feels

No longer able to contain

The truths my soul reveal

The poets bane is to tame

Life with words...

Time flew effectively well

by Aubrey Martin Mgwenya

Time flew effectively well.

And the pride of man restored indeed.

The journey has been embezzled by hope.

The poet stood on his writing consign,

With the belief that one day, his mind and pen

Will speak the melody of his dreams,

His poetry seeks a home to dwell.

And his mind contented with love to feed.

Nobody wills to read his outlook and cope.

Nobody sing and dance unto his assign.

But still he trust that, with the honor of the ten-

Commandments, he shall stand with his arms-

High in the sky with delight,

For, his mind will soon see the light.

heavy

by zamantungwa

on my mind
clamouring to escape
a truth, a lie, a prophesy

but a word
out of place, out of sync
the claps, the raps, the traps

pen won't ink
the page the words escape
and the poet's albatross unable to lift off

One Night

by Su

I felt electrified/

In the summer/

We ran across a field /

In a thunderstorm/

Dark flashing night/

I slipped on the riverbank/

A strong hand you gave me/

As you stood in the water/

Then deftly carried me across/

Under the willow tree/

We laughed together/

You wet & strong/

Me soft & muddy/

I saw the light flash/

Across your flawless face/

We then strode & ran on/

Panting, giggling & eager /

We got to your room/

Stripped of our clothes/

Bathed together/

Like children we played/

Then melted in bed/

You woke me at dawn/

Sleepy & forlorn/

I smiled at you/

Morning breath forgotten/

It was just us two/

Alone in the world..

this (k)Night

by zamantungwa

darkness falls
chasing us into our burrows
the warmth of light inviting us in

out in the streets
in the dark alleys
nights black lurk in threat

in here we snuggle
dream of the black knight
under who's protection we bask in light.

Grass/ Cracked Pavement

by Su...

Beneath the concrete
My roots endure
Responding to nature
I was here before..

Steadily embracing
The sun as it peeks
Through tiny holes
Sipping morning dew..

The stony roof cracks
I reach fervently up
To endless freedom
My sleek leaves unfurl..

For I was made to grow..

Paradoxicated

by Evana Schroeder

Sweet, Bitter, honey memories on a Rainy day...

Will they live forever?

Or just shock in my heart…

No one will care if we didn’t

Make it on a sunny day

Survival of the fittest!

Why? Why is why why?

Torture that is sweetly.

How can one give love a new beginning

If your heart is not yours anymore to

feel?

Feeling bitter, sweet memories

will they ever survive?

Survive in my heart that I

gave to you, but then

suddenly you shocked to

Death and that left

ME

Speechless!
